Project Summary

Next Gen E-Sport: Rise of Champions is a promotional campaign that I designed for an institutional esports tournament.

The campaign consists of two tournament posters and a champion mock cheque. My aim was to create a visual identity that feels competitive, energetic and suitable for the gaming audience while still presenting important tournament information clearly.

I used bold typography, game-character imagery, strong colour contrast and layered graphic effects to give the campaign a high-energy esports appearance.

Idea / Concept

My main idea was to translate the excitement of competitive gaming into a strong event identity.

I wanted the audience to immediately notice the tournament name, prize value and overall scale of the event before moving on to details such as dates and participation information.

To achieve this, I used large metallic typography, orange highlights and character-focused compositions to create a sense of intensity and competition.

The idea of becoming a champion also influenced the overall visual direction, including the design of the winner mock cheque.

Technique / Approach

I used layered character compositions, glow effects, textures, halftone patterns, geometric overlays and large outlined typography to create the visual style of the campaign.

Because each poster contained a large amount of event information, I divided the content into clear visual groups. The tournament title and prize value were given the strongest emphasis, followed by dates, participation information and supporting details.

I repeated the silver and orange typography treatment throughout the campaign so that the different promotional materials remained visually connected.

The same visual identity was later adapted into a landscape format for the champion mock cheque.

Creative Process / Idea Generation

I started by organising the tournament information according to importance.

The event name, prize pool, dates and participation details were treated as the main information that needed to be recognised quickly. Once the information hierarchy was established, I began arranging the game-character imagery and background elements around it.

I experimented with different character sizes, placements and background effects to create energy without making the posters too difficult to read.

Glow effects, textures, halftone patterns and geometric elements were added gradually to strengthen the esports atmosphere. I also adjusted the contrast between the typography and the detailed background so that the important information remained visible.

After completing the tournament posters, I adapted the same visual direction for the champion mock cheque.

Because the mock cheque used a landscape format instead of portrait, I rearranged the composition while maintaining the same typography, colours and champion-focused identity.

Final Outcome

The final outcome is a coordinated three-piece promotional campaign consisting of two tournament posters and one champion mock cheque.

The two posters communicate the tournament information using a high-energy esports visual style, while the mock cheque extends the same campaign identity into the winner presentation.

Using consistent typography, colours and graphic treatments across the three designs helped create a recognisable identity for the Next Gen E-Sport: Rise of Champions event.

Behind the Work

One of the main challenges in this project was balancing visual intensity with readability.

Esports graphics usually contain a lot of energy, colour and character imagery, but the posters also needed to communicate important information such as the tournament name, prize pool, dates and participation details.

I therefore started by establishing a clear hierarchy before adding the more detailed visual effects.

The event title and prize value were treated as the strongest elements, while the supporting information was separated into smaller visual groups. This allowed me to add character imagery, glow effects, textures and geometric elements without losing the main message.

I also wanted the campaign to feel consistent across different formats.

The two tournament posters use a portrait composition, while the champion mock cheque uses a landscape layout. Instead of creating a completely different design for the cheque, I reused the same silver and orange typography, colour treatment and champion-focused visual language.

This project helped me understand how an event identity can be adapted across several promotional materials without losing consistency.

It also gave me more experience in working with information hierarchy, image compositing, typography and visual effects within a fast-paced esports design style.
