Project Summary

Pilihan is a short film project that I worked on as part of the production crew, poster designer and video editor. The project combines filmmaking, video editing and promotional design into one complete campaign.

My involvement allowed me to experience different stages of the production process, from supporting the filming process to developing the promotional visuals and editing the completed short film.

Idea / Concept

Pilihan explores themes of choice, consequence and personal conflict.

For the visual direction, I wanted the promotional artwork to reflect the dramatic mood of the story without revealing too much of the narrative. I focused on character imagery, darker tonal treatments and a strong title presence to create curiosity and establish the identity of the film.

The same visual direction was also carried into the casting poster so that the promotional materials remained connected to the overall project.

Technique / Approach

For the video, I worked with the production team during filming and later edited the footage using Adobe Premiere Pro. During the editing process, I arranged the selected footage into a structured sequence and refined the pacing to support the flow of the story.

For the promotional artwork, I used Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to prepare the visual elements, compose the character imagery and develop the poster layout.

I used tonal contrast, layered effects and focused typography to give the key poster a more cinematic appearance while keeping the title as one of the strongest elements in the composition.

Creative Process / Idea Generation

The project started with understanding the direction and mood of the short film before moving into production.

As part of the production crew, I was involved in the filming process and gained practical experience working around a short-film production environment. This helped me understand how the footage captured during production would later come together during editing.

After filming, I worked on the video editing process by reviewing the available footage, selecting suitable shots and arranging them into the intended sequence. I refined the timing and pacing to create a smoother flow between scenes.

At the same time, I developed the promotional visual direction for the project. I experimented with character placement, typography, colour treatment and background effects until the key poster matched the dramatic tone of the film.

For the casting poster, I used a clearer information hierarchy so that details such as the audition date, character requirements and contact information could be understood quickly while still maintaining a visual connection with the main campaign.

Final Outcome

The final outcome is a completed short film supported by a key visual poster and casting poster.

Being involved in both the production and post-production stages gave me the opportunity to see how a short-film project develops from filming into its final edited form. Designing the promotional materials also allowed me to connect my graphic design skills with my video production work.

Behind the Work

Pilihan was an interesting project for me because it allowed me to work across several different creative areas within one production.

As part of the film production crew, I gained experience working in an actual filming environment and understanding how different shots contribute to the final story. When I moved into the editing stage, I had to look at the footage from a different perspective by considering which shots worked best together and how the timing between scenes affected the overall flow.

Video editing was one of the most important parts of my involvement in this project. I worked with the available footage in Adobe Premiere Pro, arranged the scenes and refined the sequence to create the completed short film.

I also designed the key poster and casting poster for the project. One of the challenges was creating promotional artwork that could communicate the mood of the story without revealing too much about what happens in the film. I used character-focused imagery, darker tones and prominent title placement to create a more dramatic visual identity.

The casting poster had a different purpose because the information needed to be understood quickly. I therefore focused more on visual hierarchy while still keeping it connected to the identity of the main poster.

Working on Pilihan helped me understand how filming, video editing and promotional design can support each other as part of one complete creative project. It also gave me practical experience in moving between production, post-production and visual communication rather than treating them as separate areas.
